The price range of houses Ms. Chirico cited are for older, smaller houses. Mr. Paolella gave you a pretty good idea of price range. You do not want to live in Trailwoods if you have kids. It's just too far for playdates and such unless you just want to stick in that area. You might consider living near the Bee Meadow pool so your family can just walk and hang there over the summer. The thing is the houses are older splits, bi-levels. I like Colonials so I'm biased. Plus some of the neighboring houses don't really take care of their house. I suggest stay at the Whippany side and a neighborhood where residents take care of their landscaping. But you can also look at the houses near the highschool since every July 4th they have fireworks. Again these are older houses with floorplans I don't really like.

Have you also ventured into other surrounding communities? My family and myself live in Denville. Great community with a town center that gives you the "Mayberry" feel to it.
Other towns to look at are Morris Twsp & Morris Plains. Hanover is a nice suburban community in eastern Morris County, Homes range in price from older Splits, Ranches, and Capes ($425,000 to $600,000) to larger Colonials ($600,000 to $1,500,000). Anything less expensive is going to be in rough shape. Hanover is quite desirable due to its centralized location and good schools. It is not a pretty town, it is more of a suburban sprawl. There is no real downtown area, just shopping areas mainly along Route 10.
Bee Meadow - the northwest section features older Bi-Levels, Splits, Capes, and some smaller Colonials. Also some younger Colonials built in the mid 1990's.
Malapardis Park- the west section of town. Suburban residential area.
Trailwoods - far West section of the Malapardis area serviced by Morris Plains post office.
Countrywood - just north of Trailwoods and quite similar.
Birch Hill - nice neighborhood in Whippany area west of Whippany Rd. Larger Bi-Levels, Split Levels, Ranches.
Boulevard Estates - new neighborhood of Colonials on the east side of Malapardis. Upper 700's to low 800's.
Sterling Woods Estates - High end subdivision of Colonials priced above $1,000,000. Located in the Malapardis area, but east of 287 (a little too close for my taste).
Forest Hills - New subdivision near Whippany. Large Colonials priced $1,100,000 to $1,500,000.
Heritage Woods - just North of the high school, a neighborhood of Bi-Levels, Split Levels, and Colonials built in the 1970's. Low 500's to mid 600's.
Academy Estates - small neighborhood located in the southwest corner near where Routes 24 and 287 intersect. Quite noisy as a result.
As far as elementary schools, there are 3: Bee Meadow, Mountview, and Salem. All 3 are considered very good, buy Mountview has the best scores by a small margin.

What kind of advice are looking for? Hanover is fast moving town but recently homes have been sitting just a little longer on the market than in the past. The town has a few "town centers" but not a real "downtown area" . It is tremendously convienent to all kinds of shopping with Route 10 cutting through the center of town. The elemenatry schools are all located inside the neighborhoods so it's nice for kids to walk to school, lots of crossing guards on every corner it seems. The elementary schools feed to Memorial Jr School and then to Whippany Park High School which is the sister school to Hanover Park High School. Whippany Park High is ranked statewide and turns out some pretty impressive kids.
I know I went on about the high school but I feel as if the high school eventually turns out the elementary students. Great place to settle into. Let me know if there is anything I've missed.
Hanover Township is comprised of Whippany and Cedar Knolls. Each one has their own post office and zip codes. The Hanover Township Public schools serve both communities (Whippany and Cedar Knolls) for grades K-8. http://www.hanovertownship.com/Schools.htm
Hanover has homes ranging in price from $350,000-$500,000.
East Hanover is its own town with its own grammar schools for grades K-8. http://www.easthanoverschools.org/
Homes in East Hanover range from $375,000-$600,000.
