That's a very astute comment. It is not just about the API score any more than getting a rounded education is about getting the best grades. Would you rather your children enjoyed going to a school where they got good grades or disliked going to a school but they got better grades?

All of the schools in the SRVUSD are pretty good. Sure, some score higher than others. I'm a real estate agent living in Twin Creeks and I can tell you that many of the homes I have sold here are to parents who specifically wanted either Bollinger Elementary or Twin Creeks Elementary with the knowledge that their children would then move on to the highly rated Iron Horse Middles School.

Sure, check out the comments on GreatSchools.net. It is a good resource. Even better, give me a call on (925) 997-1585 or email me at bernard@bernardgibbons.com and I'll put you in touch with some parents of children who go to Twin Creeks, Bollinger or Iron Horse and you get the real facts.

School API score is more like medium home price of a area. It is not a good indicator of school quality. greatschool.com provide detail information behind API score. It breaks down API scores into ethnic groups. Usually Asian students score higher than White, and White are higher than Hispanic. If there are more Asian, it more likely has better API, and more Hiispanic poorer API. Many shool's high API is simply because of high Asian ratio. Check those top ranked Cupertino school, their Asian ratio is more than 90%. Same thing also happens in San Ramon now, especially in Windemere.

I am looking for a house in San Ramon and Danvile area as well. I understand your concern. I have two girls, 6 and 9. I want them attend a good school as well. From my point view, all the schools in San Ramon Valley Unified school district are great. You must saw the extreme high API score for Hidden Hills elementary and Coyote Creek Elementary. I admit they are both great school. But API score is not everything. It could not tell the full story about the school. I read some reviews. Some parents were not very happy of both schools. It really depends what you are looking for. For me, I will concentrate more on the house our family feel comfortable living in. I will be less concerned about the school. For me, 20 points differences in API really mean nothing. School is just part of the educational system. A good education should also includ home education. Do you agree? Also, I heard both Gale Ranch and Windemere schools are full. They are in lottery system. So, this is additonal risk that you may not be able to send your kids to the nearby school. Any way, wish you luck!

I can not understand why people like Windemere so much. Extra tax, sub-par community, big cookie cut houses on small lots, less privacy, no shopping near by, once flipper's haven turns foreclosure's hell, overflowed school, no mature trees, .... I just found out during my recent visit to Windemere, many 3-4 years old occupied houses still have no had back yard built. I just wonder what kind of people living there? They think they just living there alone in their big house, no care for community?

I think AJ has fair opinion on schools. http://www.greatschools.net has good information and you can compare school ratings. So, far WRMS is top rated middle school and Hidden Hills top rated elementary school in SRVUSD. It happens that both these schools ar part of Windemere. I also like part of SR located West Side of 680 freeway, but Windemere rocks for value for money and for families with kids!!!

Jason RE has no idea what he is talking about. Both old San Ramon and Windemere/Gale Ranch have great schools. It is true that Windemere and San Ramon have wonderful schools but at this time you need to deal with some severe impaction issues. Older San Ramon near Bollinger Hills for example have some following schools and API scores which easily place them in the top 10 in the nation and perfectly in line with Windemere/Gale Ranch scores. Montevideo (API growth score 903), Twin Creeks (API growth score 882) or Walt Disney (API growth score 903). A great tool is http://www.srvusd.k12.ca.us/. My wife is a teacher at Windemere and I would be happy to share more info with you if you would like. You can reach me at ajcohen@apr.com or at 925.819.2747.
Have a great 4th,
AJ Cohen
