I have 6 month old daughter and my husband will be working in Georgetown. I would love to be near good cafe / shopping / market area. Any advice greatly appreciated.

Try Beaumont. (Zip Code 40513). This is the best location in Lexington. Try Beaumont Farms apartments if you are looking for apartments. There are also houses for rent in subdivisions like Enclave near Rosa Parks Elementary School.

I understand your situation, I have moved to Lexington from another country and was not sure what I was getting myself into....but I am so glad we ended up here.
We are in the community of Andover, which is safe, has great schools, and fantastic shopping close by.
Our neighbors have been awesome, and very welcoming, our kids our always busy playing with kids, and I wouldn't want to be anywhere else.
In fact, overall, I have found Kentucky to be like that in general.
Best of luck with your move, and welcome to Kentucky.

The Hamburg area of lexington would be good. Easy access to I-75 for Georgetown. Beautiful shops and restaurants

good luck with your move! im moving back myself (was raised there) and honestly can't wait. i miss home! :) the best bet if you want to save some money and don't mind a little commute would be to rent in richmond or surrounding areas OUTSIDE of lexington. While there are cheap areas of lexington, unless you like the rustle and bustle of a larger city lifestyle, in my opinion it's not worth the price. I do have to admit though that I somewhat enjoyed living around tates creek @ man o' war. its close to the country yet close to downtown. the further out tates creek (closer to richmond/madison county) you go, the more rural it turns.

again, good luck on your move and welcome to not only the united states... but kentucky! :)

Here are some websites that might help: (then click on rentals)
There are great neighborhoods all over Lexington and a lot to choose from! If those sites don't give you the information you need, please let me know and I'll try again! I live in Frankfort now but grew up in Lexington so would be happy to show you around when you get here. Georgetown is a great city too if you would consider living there. Welcome to Kentucky!
