Hi D,

No such thing in Philadelphia anymore. That was happening many years ago with abandoned properties back before John Street began his NTI program.

Back in the day you use to be able to buy a house for a dollar from the city,if you was low income and the property was abandon. They use give grant s so you can fix it up but you had to be working as well . Don't be like that.

keeping the neighborhood safe, clean and drug free. give back to the neighborhood by sharing food programs, leadership skills and talent on job hiring through volunteering. making a difference in the youts in the area just by demonstrating being an adult with intrests in thier future.

Not a fact as in knowing for sure, but someone had stated to me that their friend had purchased a home through an auction, and the most her friend paid was $1,000.00.

Now, take into consideration the property was in bad shape, and there was much renovation to be done.

I would think that you have to deal with a lawyer or license and inspections in regards to any legal issues pertaining to the property, and the way you would like to build on this lot in regards to being commercial or personal property. I would beleive that L&I has legal authority over these topics.

thats usually for family transfers, you can try to obtain a property through the redevelopment authority but you have to locate a property owned by the city of philadelphia or redevelopment authority...goodluck

You don't, but.............since this question was asked back in Feb '09, perhaps the same house might now cost only 75 cents

There are also sometimes dollar properties offered to non-profit organizations, and some special organizations or quasi government entities. They are not available to individuals. You used to be able to see them on the HUD sites, but I have not looked any up for several years.

At any rate, the dollar house for individuals is a myth as far as I am aware.

I jsut ran across a home, during a search in the MLS, which actually was for $1. Here's the rub. You don't get to have the lot it's sitting on. You have to move the home, which can be a very daunting task.

Hello D?

It's called a dollar deed, in most cases you can exchange property to another family member, or a buyout from a divore etc........

Ther are also other dollar deed conditions available too. So....... feel free to call me confidentially for additional information.
