Home Buying in Indianapolis>Question Details

Joe Brown, Home Buyer in Merrillville, IN

First time home buyer, moving from NW indiana to indianapolis, can anyone help?

Asked by Joe Brown, Merrillville, IN Fri Feb 20, 2009

My fiance and I are looking to move to Indianapolis. We need and agent to help us who is patient and doesn't mind a million questions. The hard part is that we only have weekends to come to the city and look at houses. But we are hoping to find something (around $80,000) before we move down. We will be in Indianapolis Feb. 26,27,28. I know it's short notice but I was hoping to meet with someone, if anyone's available.

Hi Joe,
Congrats on yor move to the area! I can tell by the response you have been getting from this site you are in good company. I know many of these agents both personally and professionally. You will find a good agent. I would like to toss my hat in the ring for your consideration. My last client just bought a home and relocated from Mishawaka and I heard first hand all the trouble she had in selling her last home. The market there is totally different up north than it is here. A few of my last deals have been to first time buyer teachers/coaches who are from the"region" and we worked through all their questions, fears, worries, and desires as they were new to the area. Here is my philosophy: I look at a home as an investment.....possibly the largest single purchase you will make in your life. I don't need to "sell" you a home. You will find plenty of great homes here. What I want to do is advise you of all the pros and cons and help you make an informed decision. I will even go so far as to "talk" you out of a bad purchase. I have plenty of clients who would be more than happy to tell you of their experience of getting talked out of a bad buy, only to find a better home at a less expensive price. I can really relate to first time buyers. I started out in the business when I was 24, full time, and then went on a buying spree of rental homes, rehabs, and general contracting. ( I have been in the business 17 years now) Each and every time I put my money on the line and experienced all the same anxiety that you have as a new buyer. It is a feeling I will never loose. Please check out my profile and qualifications. As an update, I am also currently taking appraisal classes to position myself as an authority in home valuation.......something I wish to share with my clients. There is so much to talk about and I'm sure you have more questions than answers right now. On top of finding the perfect home you also need to address financing. With the new $8,000 stimulis tax grant, everyones options have changed. Contact me anytime and we can talk over the many options you have. All the best as you plan your move!

It's a great day in Indy, Joe.

I can't imagine what formula you will use to decide upon an agent.
All the respondents here are good agents. However, I am patient and kind
and have worked for my children and their friends to find their first homes. I have certainly worked with many other first time buyers as well. I can make myself available to you next weekend, if you choose me to help you. I have information booklets designed to help first time home buyers detailing the jargon and the process and will give you those as well as answer all your questions - however many. I will send the
listing information on every home that fits your criteria and I will inform you on neighborhood conditions
as well. It's important that you feel comfortable and knowledgeable every step of the way. After all, it is your home.

My Best Regards whoever you may choose.

Thanks for the opportunity.

Hi Joe,

I'm originally from the northwestern part of Indiana, and actually on my way to the region today (hoping the snow doesn't get in our way). I'd be happy to answer as many questions as you have, and see if we can find a home for you in Indianapolis. Let's talk before you get here, so we can map out a plan, and then look at homes when you're here next week. I'm working with someone now looking in this same price range, so I've seen about 15 houses on the market now, and can give you a decent idea of what you can get for your money. Feel free to call me anytime at 317.702.0058, or drop me an e-mail at Laura@TalktoTucker.com.

I know of several good agents in the area, as well as the two that answered your questions, but have you been pre-approved yet for a home loan. Are you prepared to take advantage of the $8000 tax credit that you may be eligible for?
