As long as you credit history does not indicate bad history with apartment/home payments, it should not affect. Almost everyone has blemished credit, and rental companies only look at "housing" history. Also you will need to show ability to make future payments...meaning, are you going to be employed upon arrival, or have a fixed income.
If the above does not aply to you, then you are better of looking for a private landlord, who may be more flexible.
