"Credit Repair" question.

Asked by Pkpk, Atlanta, GA Mon Sep 22, 2008

In early July of this year I pulled a copy of my credit report. I filed a Ch. 7 - 2 years ago. Because I lost my job early this year, I had a repo in May. I currently rent a townhome from an individual and eventually want to purchase a townhome. I was introduced to a person who does 'credit repair'. I asked her to explain how it works. They basically dispute the negative items on your credit month after month until the creditor fails to respond to the bureau and the bureau deletes the item from the report. Well, while I don't totally feel comfortable with this concept...I told this person that I can do this myself (she charges almost 1000 for a year of this). I started this process at the end of July and as of today have had 13 negative items (most were included in my Ch.7) removed from my Equifax report. Items have been removed from the other 2 reports as well. I got equifax to removed ALL hard inquiries from my report. These results are after only 2 rounds of disputes.

Go to the website http://www.chrismartenson.com and click on "The Crash Course." You should take that class and get a better grasp of the economy.

Right now, you should rent something cheap for a few years and hoard your cash for a sunnier day.

If you eliminate this "eventually wanting to purchase" urge, then your life will improve.

Keep doing what you are doing with your credit, pay off all other debts and save, save, save - 10% for the downpayment on a place way better than the townhome you are fixated on in 2008
