Slight problem would be the dog especially if you look to rent. As far as a condo is concerned most condo associations, but not all, allow dogs but often with a weight limit of 35/40 lbs. Although I must admit to showing a unit last week where the person had a Great Dane/Greyhound mix!
Its a little easier with the Townhouse style where you have a separate entrance but the mls listing has a specific field where the agent has to indicate whether pets are allowed and if so what the weight limit is. That is something a realtor can help you with.
If you like old then 2 come to mind. The Mill in Little Falls is an old factory by the river and waterfall. Some but not all the units have 12 ft ceilings. Does allow dogs but I am not sure if there is a size limit. The second is in Pompton Lakes called Iron Forge Sq which also allows dogs
A 2 bed unit in The Mill a littleover $300,000 In Iron Forge a bit under $300,000
If ypu want new there is a gated community in Butler that is maybe 5 yrs old. Bit pricier for a townhouse as opposed to a single level condo.
All the towns mentioned in my 2 answers are great and within 15 minutes or so of Wayne

You could try Wayne, North Haledon or Hawthorne as the closest. A bit farther out and a little cheaper you could go to Butler, Lincoln Park or Pequannock.
You could buy a 1 bedroom condo for as little as $200,000with 2 bedrooms at around $275,000 and up depending on age and condition.
You would find a rental in one of those towns as well and expect to pay $800 and up (plus utilities) for a 1 bedroom.
Anyone of those towns you would have a 15 or 20 minute commute depending upon where in Wayne your job is.

I am a single male (37 years old) looking for 1 but preferably 2 bedrooms. I have a dog (large but a trained house dog) that will be coming with me...a yard is not necessary, schools not important, decent (safe) area is very important, shops close by is not an issue either way and I like and am open to older buildings that have been modernized / warehouses or new construction. I grew up in Central / coastal NJ but have not been up north in over 11 years. I have heard there has been a lot of revitalization up there.
