Dixon Mills?

Asked by Amy, Hoboken, NJ Mon Jan 19, 2009

What are people's thoughts/experiences with Dixon Mills? I am looking to buy a 2br duplex and am trying to get as much information as possible. Is it a safe area? I currently live in Hoboken and love it here, but would love the investment and more space.

Thanks!

It's definitely safe enough. My wife and I are in our 40's and moved to that area (Wayne St. at Grove) from the East Village in mid-2007. We had a great experience - the quality of life far exceeded our expectations. (We didn't consider Hoboken because we wanted to stay away from the backwards-baseball-cap scene.) Personally, I would avoid Dixon Mills because of a certain lameness/sameness to its units, the college dorm vibe it exudes, and mostly, the fact that it's really not much of a bargain. There are a lot of cool spaces further out around Monmouth / 7th if you're dead set on 07302.

I ived in Jersey Cty for 5 years in the late 90's. I lived in Pavonia Newport. At the time Dixon Mills was at the outer fringes of the good part of the Jersey City water front. I too lived in Hoboken for a number of years and got out when the rents got out of hand and moved to JC. I actually liked the Jersey City water front better than Hoboken. Not as many young kids right out of College. With all the build up on the waterfront over the past 7 years I think JC is a good bet especially if you like the area. Dixon Miils is probably close enough to the water front to benefit from all the new construction.

Amy,

The Dixon Mills project is a very nice complex. I know several people who bought there and are really happy. The building has unique lofty units and desirable amenities like a large fitness center and concierge.

As far as safety I recommend calling the Jersey City Police Department for a crime report in the area. They are best people to answer that question. Here is their information.
