Kris, Another question today jogged my memory. This website shows the Housing and Transportation Affordability Index for 25 metro areas including Detroit. http://htaindex.cnt.org/ I suggest using the Advanced Search.

I would ask that question of your new co-workers or their spouses.

Have you visited SchoolMatters.com. As Gary said, the Realtors who answer questions on this site are not permitted to comment on the quality of different school districts. Though we would like to help you, recommending schools is something we cannot do.

Each of those 4 districts has extremely informative information packets for transferees.

As a native of Birmingham, I, for example, know relatively little about the Grosse Pointes, so any advice I gave you would be biased by my proximity to B'ham, Troy and Bloomfield.

Kris, Again, real estate professionals are not able to steer you to specific communities. There were links to schools and traffic in my last answer. You would be able to research trip times on http://mapquest.com

Sorry, I have to work within the law.
