Hello Wendy:
I have sold homes in the community of Shipley's Choice and have an active listing there now. It is a popular community with many amenities and lies in a very convenient location. It has a Swim/Tennis Club & Shipley's Choice Elementary school is right in the community. They attend Severna Park Middle and High schools and the location is convenient to BWI airport, MARC & Amtrack train station and major roads.
Right now there is one rental available in the community for $2,900/month. The home is also for sale at $675,000. They are 17 other active listings for sale in the community ranging from $550,000 to $684,000. If a home has been on the market for an extended period of time they may consider renting.... all depending on their circumstances. It would be worth it to ask.
Many of the communities in Millersville (i.e. Shipley's Retreat, Olde Mill, etc.) do not feed into Shipley's Choice Elementary so be sure to check it out if you specifically want that school.
If I can help you, I can be contacted at jdiggs@cbmove.com
Good Luck and Welcome to Maryland!

I have two customers recently that have done what you want to do and I think you are wise in "trying out " the area before you purchase. If you would be so kind as to call me at 410-245-1386 I will send a list of homes for rent in the area. I would nee your criteria in terms of number of bedrooms , baths, whether or nor you want detached or would consider semi detached or townhomem if you require a garage, etc. You may also e-mail me at wandamurray@remax.net Thank you and good hunting!

If you rent in Shipley's Choice, you will not have access to the pool or tennis courts. In fact, less than 1/2 the residents have pool/tennis memberships. The only way to have a membership is to own in Shipley's and you may have to wait 4 yrs to get a pool bond even with owning a house. It is a terrible thing, especially with children who would love to go to a neighborhood pool but cannot.

Hi Wendy, My name is Joan Schellhase with Coldwell Banker Resid. Brokerage and I have been selling homes in Shipley's Choice for the past 25 years. I have sold a home on just about every street in the community. I used to live in Shipley's. My partner, Pam Meyers, lives there now and I sold my daughter and family a home in the neighborhood as well. Pam and I had a nice colonial for rent in Shipley's recently but it has just rented. In order to go to the Shipley's Choice Elem. School you must live in the neighborhood. If you want to rent outside the neighborhood, there are 25 other homes you could visit for rent. The other elementary schools int he area are also veryi good. Despite what you hear, Folger Mckinsey is a good school. They have their National Blue Ribbon status as well as the other elem. schools in the area (Shipley's Choice, Benfield Elem, Oak Hill Elem, Jones Elem, and I think Sevenra Park Elem. as well). The current prices in Shipley's are from $500K-$635K. Pam and I would be happy to help you if you would like. You can visit our web site at http://www.AAHomeTeam.com. Hi Wendy!
Great question. Yes, there are sellers out there that need to move and if they are having trouble selling their home, they switch gears and opt to rent. Do not be discouraged if you don't see any rentals that fit your needs. Ask a realtor to make a few calls on your behalf to see if any of the sellers of the houses that fit your needs are willing to rent instead of sell. Keep in mind though, if the rental is less than a year, you may be looking at higher rent than a typical yearly rental.
Good luck and visit my site if you want to acquaint yourself with the area - DonnellyGroupRealEstate.com

Good afternoon Wendy
This is always a wise choice when moving to a new area, most residential rentals are a minimum of 12 months but that does not mean you can't try and negotiate for 6 or 9 months. Currently
there are nine rentals available in the Millersville area from 1595 - 3100 a month. Not all of these feed into Shipley's choice because there are a few elementary schools in the area, but we can most certainly figure that out. A lot will depned on your critereia. What is your time frame?? Let me know if you need any help. Good luck with your search, keep in mind most rentals especially when they are listed with a real estate company required a credit check for each applicant that is $50-75 per applicant and a work verification. AT least working with a realtor should provide you with some confort especially in a new area for you and your family.

Thanks
Melissa

Wendy,

Check with a Realtor that is familiar with Millersville. If you don't know of any, I can pass a few on to you. Just as it is a buyers market, it is a renters market as well. Take your time - you will find a deal!
