Rating and comment on PS 72

Asked by Frank Dee, Fri Oct 17, 2008

A grandparent stated that he would seek a different school for his granddaughter since scores came in low. My daughter attends PS72 and I am very pleased with education she is receiving there. It is not the school's fault when low scores come in. Parents need to take some responsibility in their child's education. TOO MUCH blame is placed on the school & some parents refuse to involve themselves. How many parents actually sit with their children & help them with homework? Parents today are too busy or don't want to be bothered. Parents need to start taking responsibility in what happens with their child's education. Teachers can only do so much. It's so easy to pass on the blame. I've seen teachers stay at school past 7p.m. & some come in very early. How many teachers you see lugging heavy bags home to take work with them. Are they really appreciated for their hard work? We need to give teachers more credit because not many people could do what they do & deal with difficult children!

Frank,

You hit the nail on the head!!! Bingo!

I got my Guidance Counseling Certificate and decided to become a real estate agent...lol

Anyhow - in my experience working in that field - I can tell you that many families lack the social environment that would support a healthier school environment. What does this mean? Broken familes, drug addiction impacting the family, you name it, it's running rampant in our entire society. It's sad.

Anyhow - the school has turned into a glorified babysitting place for many parents who are struggling to keep up with their bills - (modern society where if the family has both parents in the home - both are working and scrambling to pay taxes, put food on the table, etc.).

It's the rat race and kids and schools are wrapped in it. Oh by the way - the teachers in the schools have families and kids too and they're going through the same thing!

Keep the faith and keep on keeping on - and keep in touch.

I am totally in agreement with you...a child's habits and understanding of the importance of education begin at home!
