Do you try craigslist.org to find homes to rent? We place homes to sell to rent all in that web page.

there is no central database of homes for rent. There are some in the Realtor's database, but those will be ones listed with realtors or with management companies and will typically be higher end rentals. Most lower end rentals are owned by individuals who only own one or two rentals and who typically advertise them with a sign in the yard and maybe putting an ad in the local paper one time. Those individuals typically don't like to work with Realtors as they don't want to pay realtors a referral fee. Most realtors don't do many rentals outside of the MLS system (and try to avoid those if they can) since they will show someone 20 rentals, then have them rent from someone they found through a sign in the yard and the realtor will end up getting paid nothing for their time, gas and the labor of finding potential rentals (and it is FAR more time consuming to find potential rentals then it is homes for sale since there is no central database). As a result, most realtors will only do it for friends, family and a very select few that they really believe will come back to them later when they are ready to buy. FYI, a typical rental ends up with a Realtor getting paid between $100-$250, maybe $500. If they are lucky it's equal to the first month's rent or the deposit, but normally, it's a 1/4-1/2 of the first month's rent or a flat fee, and that is often split with their broker.

You can see homes for rent listed through Realtors on my web site at http://www.TerryWillis.net. As usual, the seller/landlord pays the commission to the Realtor. If I can be of assistance to you, just let me know. I can also recommend several financing options if you would like to consider buying vs. renting and start earning equity for yourself. You can send me an email through my web site if you would like more information. Happy hunting!
