Asked by Jennifer Showalter, Pittsfield, MA Sat Apr 12, 2008

The house has been on the market for over 200 days, the relo company has the lowered the price once by 50k - how aggressive should I be w/my offer in this market? Asking price under 500k and needs kitchen, bath updates (2) and new carpet...am qualified to buy w/o contingencies...

Remember with a relo company they have a figure in mind of what they must sell the property for. Since you are dealing with a large company you won't offend anyone with a low ball offer, as you may an individual owner that has their memories in their home. If they don't like your offer, they'll just counter or reject it.

If you don't ask, you don't receive.

It depends on whether they're finally ready to get rid of the property and the type of deal they have with the seller, as to how aggressively they will respond to your offer.

As real estate is local in nature, your offer amount would depend on researching comparable sales in the area, the amount that you are qualified for and the relos asking price. All of those factors must be taken into consideration.

Best wishes to you.
