Does anybody know of a good company or website for purchasing window display products for my office?

Asked by Jonathan Bowen, Stoughton, MA Sun Apr 6, 2008

I have a storefront and was originally using transparent acrylic holders and suction cups from Staples to display my listings in my windows but I thought it looked very tacky and have stopped. I have had a difficult time finding a company or website that provides a good solution. Please help! I'd be extremely grateful. Thanks in advance, Jon

Hi Jonathan. Our office opened a store front business center last year in November. We needed a low-cost solution to display our listing flyers in the window. We decided to use expandable curtain rods and curtain rings ($2.99/each and about $1 per curtain ring) to hang our flyers and we also have a flat screen monitor in the window that shows all our listings in a slide show. I understand your concern about the possible break-in. We also included flyers announcing community events and mortgage rate sheets in the slideshow. The benefit of having the slide show is that people can see our listings at night too, but you might be able to install low voltage lighting and clip them to the curtain rods somehow so that people can see the listings at night as well. I really liked the Nova Display concept, but it is very expensive. I had seen it somewhere before but did not know which company sold it. I am sure you could put together a similar solution yourself for a lot less.

Nova Display has the European type wire displays found at just about every real estate office in Europe. We have them at our office and they are excellent. We have had offers for a free LCD display from many but....are afraid of the potential for break in. Ask your insurance company if such display would create an "attractive nuisance" and void your insurance. The displays at Nova are great if you are using attractive and professional fliers for your listings.

Jonathan, Why don't you explore a kiosk type vehicle for your listings, an interactive computer screen or perhaps just a big old monitor in the window with a slide show featuring all of your listings. A local company here in San Francisco had a "storefront" concept which fizzled but I thought was a cool idea. They allowed the consumer to come in and use their computers to search for listings and get real estate advice. It was a very non-intimidating experience and the Realtors there only got paid a an agreed upon "wage". It fell apart as the agents could not get behind a gauranteed wage when they sold a Million dollar loft and saw what the OTHER agent recieved in commisoin! However, I think with a storefront you could do all sorts of interesting, fun things other than hanging your listings in the window. I remember years ago there was a company called, "Gallery of Homes" and they had gorgeous matted photos of their listings with brochures next to them. The theme was carried through by a high end Realtor I heard at a seminar where his office is a "gallery" downstairs and office up. Just some thoughts.

Hi guys, both good answers. Michael, I probably won't employ the monitor type solution in the neighborhood my office is located in. I'd be worried about a smash and grab. Christopher, I have looked at Nova Display but I think their products are rediculously expensive. It would cost over $1,000 for a bunch of wires and some transparent acrylic. Also, my lease expires at the end of May, 2009 and think I may move to another location. So, I don't want to invest that $1,000 in what may be a temporary solution. Any other suggestions?
