How much does square footage determine amount of taxes in Jackson NJ?

Asked by Liz, 07731 Fri Mar 6, 2009

We are looking to sell our house in Howell to downsize to a much smaller home in Jackson. We hear that Jackson has high taxes but the homes we are looking at seem to have much lower taxes than we pay in Howell. Is this because they are smaller?

taxes in howell are crazy i don't recommend buying in howell.they charge what they want, your water bill will be $70.00 a month no matter how small a house is,or even if it's vacant .jackson will charge according to the size of the house and lot.i bought a house in jackson for $250,00 the taxes are about $6500 but the tax assement is over $300,000,i"m appealing in toms river and the assement will be closer to $250,000 and my taxes will be about $1000.00 lower.in howell even if you appeal you may wind up paying more.they make their own rules.

Hi Liz,
Square footage of a home does affect the taxes significantly. I often work in Howell and Jackson and usually find the taxes to be higher in Howell. Let me know if you have any other questions, I live in Howell and my office is on the border of Howell, Freehold and Jackson.

Thanks,

Hi Liz. For the most accurate answer, call the tax assesor for Jackson Township to determine. However, in most parts of NJ, square footage is a major aspect used in determing taxes.
