Smart Phones, IR, & Supra a Dying Trend?

Asked by UB Home Team, Oklahoma City, OK Thu Mar 27, 2008

With time to kill, I visited my local TMobile store. To my amazement, they are no longer supporting IR on their Windows or Blackberry based phones. They said Windows Mobile 6.X has too many errors. As we know, this is required for access. My father recently purchased the ATT Centro & this was their only phone w/IR capabilities. I have become addicted to phone, email, internet, MLS, & lockbox access on my hip! Any insight on where this technology is going or are we turning back-around to carrying more than one device ... again?

I have the old TMobile MDA and can't believe they don't have anything either. How is your dad's ATT Centro? I've heard people have had trouble with their phone after having the MLS key uploaded. I'm in Edmond and would love to know what you have learned. My TMobile plan is up in May. Thanks for you help! Sfurber@BuyingEdmond.com

I think that is simple a choice made by TMobile. USCellular does not offer IR capabilities in Oklahoma either. Alltel currently offers it.

the trend nationwide is to move toward bluetooth. supra is moving toward bluetooth on the boxes. when that happens we won't need the little dongle for the non IR phones we can just get the app. I realize this is an OLD question but it has recent answers so....

The credit for the Apple I phone is countless. Just one more. It works with Supra.
Hopefully it won't be long that we can access MLS in all it's functions.
The one reason I love Apple computers it makes my life so much simpler and more hands on.
One does not need to be a computer whizz, dummies like me can do applications that would take hours with a PC. You would think that MLS would embrace this function and support it.
Hope I am not out of line when I comment on how our real estate programs are lagging behind and how ineffective an difficult the process is. Every time we get used to an application they change it and one program becomes more confusing than the other.

You should consider an "unlocked" phone, one that is not tied to a specific cell carrier. I got a Palm Treo 650, the "lowest" support by OKC MLS's Supra contract and WITHOUT WINDOWS, through an auction site for $179. My carrier doesn't support the phone itself, but since I don't have WinCE (or whatever they're calling it now) I don't need the support.Sherrie isn't the only one who knew someone with phone trouble after uploading the MLS key, but every one of them I know of had Windows on their Palm. Look for one with the PalmOne OS.Supra's list is at http://www.gesecurity.com/GESecurity/Real%20Estate/current_d… and the Treos to dodge all have 'w' or 'wx' after the number.Hope this helps.
