Morgan - School Systems are an important factor in many home buyers decision making process. As others have mentioned, evaluating depends on your criteria. A good way to start is to compare and contrast various school systems. I always recommend to my clients to speak to folks in the schools themselves for any neighborhood they are considering. If you would like to compare a couple of different towns feel free to go to my website which offers FREE SCHOOL REPORT information. I hope you find it helpful. Well Westford has very good reputation and it prides itself on excellent schools, but I have not heard any complaints about Tyngsboro either. Educational preferences are subjective, as are the needs of our children.
Tyngsboro is currently debating an override to finance a $1.2 mill deficit in the school budget and I suppose that, that could affect the district. Buy Lowell Sun on Monday to see what happens with the override.

It all depends on what exactly you want to base your answer on - is it soley MCAS scores or % of graduates to college? Is it that you want a town with brand new bldgs or more Chapter 70 funding? There are a number of variables involved that I would be happy to discuss with you. My office has eight locations including both towns. I would be happy to have a more involved discussion with you. Feel free to check out my website and contact me.

I'm currently buying a home in Tyngsboro and we just love the area. I have no proven facts but my feelings about the two towns is that Westford is considered to be a little more upscale. It will have more established families (older children), higher taxes (extends to better schools? maybe, I dont know), and slightly more expensive comparable houses. It is also slightly closer to Boston which could make prices a bit higher. I see Tyngsboro as more for younger couples just starting out who want really nice houses but dont mind being a bit further from the city. I havent heard anything negative about the school systems of either town during the past year or so that we've been shopping them (although being only in my mid-twenties, I'm not worried about schools for a while). Again this is all just my personal emotional ideas about the towns.
