Katie, Home Buyer in Nova, OH

Looking for a townhouse near Chantilly

Asked by Katie, Nova, OH Wed Mar 11, 2009

I'm a first-time home buyer who is looking to buy a 3 bedroom townhouse for $200-225k. I work out in Chantilly and would like to find someplace close to work (~10 miles), that isn't super congested (I live by Tysons Corner now and the traffic is crazy). I love Reston, but don't have enough money to get what I want. Is Herndon a good alternative? I'm single so schools don't matter and I want to live someplace where it's safe to run. Any other suggestions beside Herndon?

Katie - did you find what you're looking for yet? I have some ideas, but don't want to step on any toes if you're already working with someone. Our Keller Williams offices are actually in Chatilly, so we're VERY familiar - let me know if my team can help! http://www.jenniferyounghomes.com

Hi Katie,

Herndon and South Riding are both good choices. You might also want to consider Centreville. I can't speak to the safety of any area (nor can any Realtor, as it violates Fair Housing laws and is a matter of opinion anyway), but you can look up crime reports for Fairfax County at http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/police/crime/.

Here's a link for what's available in Centreville: http://matrix.mris.com/Matrix/Public/Email.aspx?ID=29521831171

If you have any questions or if there's anything else I can do, please just let me know. I'm happy to help!

Cheers,
Tiny

Herndon is just north of Chantilly and your commute would be mostly against traffic during rush hour - so yes, it's definitely a good alternative. There are certainly townhouses within your price range ... but they may be foreclosures or short sales, so be prepared to have some patience and willingness to do some cosmetic work. I've lived in Herndon for over 10 years and think it's a great place to live! Please contact me if I can help you find your new home.

you may want to try south riding - which is right next to chantilly. Must caution though most townhouses in the area will go closer to the high 200K but there are several foreclosures and short sales so you may get lucky!
