Now the discussion of whether or not a great public school is equal to a private school is another debate :).
Hope that helps! :)
I prefer schoolmatters.com to search for school info. It is not quite as cumbersome as Greatschools.net.
For San Jose specifically the following are the top three middle schools in regards to API scores:
#1 Joaquin Miller Middle School 6151 Rainbow Drive San Jose, CA 95129
#2 Bret Harte Middle School 7050 Bret Harte Drive San Jose, CA 95120
#3 Union Middle School 2130 Los Gatos-Almaden Road San Jose, CA 95124
For San Jose High Schools:
#1 Leland HS - 6677 Camden Avenue San Jose, CA 95120
#2 Leigh HS 5210 Leigh Avenue San Jose, CA 95124
#3 Evergreen HS 3300 Quimby Road San Jose, CA 95148
Pioneer HS was almost equal to Evergreen.
Hope that helps.
However, please remember that the score only tells part of the story. If the home is in an area where the economic demographics vary widely, the scores may be more a reflection of the wide variety of students attending than the quality of the school & teachers. Many kids in high school do not take these STAR tests seriously, since there is no benefit in doing well on this test for the students.
So, do your homework. Visit the schools. Talk to teachers & parents. Look at the graduation rates & percentage of students going onto universities. And don't forget the extra-curricular activities. If your child excels in drama, art, music, sports, various schools have very strong programs in these important areas. Here is to a well-rounded child.
Dont matter where you live....
St Francis HS, Presentation HS, and Bellermine have graduated the best
who went on to the top universities. All the nonsense and hype by realtors are useless when you
look at the facts that stand by themself for decades in the Bay Area.
I seen kids commute from San Mateo to Santa Clara (Bellermine) via train everyday...
yes the school is right next to the train station. I had a friend who went to St Francis
and lived in Santa Clara.
Save yourself the headache, the overspending on shacks in so called best districts,
Learn the facts from the natives...
Also there are Almaden area schools which are almost as sought after as Cupertino, but home price points are noticeably higher as with Cupertino
