Neighborhood Question

Asked by Rhonda, Atlanta, GA Sun Feb 8, 2009

Does anyone know anything (good, bad, indifferent) about a neighborhood that is in/near Sumter called Emerald Lake?

Gosh, I know this is late for an answer, but Emerald Lake is a beautiful, quiet community with big homes - many overlooking the lake. Most of the lots are at least .5 acre or more. Homes are typically 2000 sq.ft or more. You'll find beautiful ranch style homes, contemporary homes and even a big log cabin or two! They have an active Home Owners Asssociation that keeps the neighbors involved in the community. It's about a 10-15 minute drive to Sumter/metro, 15 minutes to Shaw AFB. We have some good friends who live there. It's one of the very few neighborhoods where you are pretty secluded from any typical Sumter noise issue (jets from Shaw, railroad tracks or racetrack (small dirt, stock car track active in summers on weekends).

Use Google Earth maps to see how pretty Emerald Lake is!

I know someone who lives up that way, although it's been awhile since I've been there. It's north of Sumter, reached by driving up Highway 15. It's in School District 2. Elementary School is RE Davis, Middle is Maywood, High is Crestwood. District 2's website is at if you'd like to check them out.

Looks like at the moment there are two houses in that subdivision on the market, one is on almost 5 acres and the other one on a little over 3 acres.

When I was up there last, it was pretty new (it's been a few years). Nice houses, nice large lots, from what I saw.
