Question Details

Lisa, Home Buyer in Greenfield, MA

I immediately went to two houses I saw on Trulia and they were sold! How do I get an earlier opportunity to?

Asked by Lisa, Greenfield, MA Wed Aug 20, 2008

Yes, we've asked local realtors to let us know about any great deals, but to be honest, they didn't seem interested. We have cash to pay (or at least for most of it) and I wonder what kind of deals that gives us an advantage in. I'm so tired of "the fish that got away". I still drive by one house that was just "it" for us and was sold.

How awful. I suggest you now focus on finding the ONE right Realtor who will work diligently on your behalf instead of asking "several "local realtors to let you know about any great deals." Chose ONE. Buying real estate today is not like shopping even though much of your search experience is online. The process can be complex, especially if you are searching for "deals" and it is usually a major financial investment for most people. You need the help of a local market expert who is working full time and who knows you are a qualified buyer and will work with them not a group of realtors. I suggest you give the Realtor you chose more details on the "great" real estate "deal" you want and your range of prices as well as locations. Ask them to set you up to receive an automatice email notice from your local multiple listing service. Ask them if your price range matches today's reality. Meet with your lender to make certain you have the resources and credit to buy what you want in this market and ask them to send a letter to your Realtor about your qualifications. As for driving by the home that was just "it" --- hopefully you can let go and focus on finding the right realtor who will or can work with you so you do not experience this kind of disappointment again. I suggest you interview several to make sure you have the right realtor for you. Remember, like all buyers, not all Realtors are the same. Good luck. Emily Medvec
