Home Buying in Columbia>Question Details

Margaret, Both Buyer and Seller in Atlanta, GA

I currently live in Atlanta and have been transferred to Columbia, SC.

Asked by Margaret, Atlanta, GA Mon Mar 3, 2008

My home in Atlanta has been on the market a year. I am looking to buy new construction in Columbia. Many builders in the Atlanta area are taking trades of existing homes for new construction. Would it be unheard of for a builder in Columbia to take a trade on a home in Atlanta?

I am not familiar with any builders willing to do this for homes in another city. I will check with the builders that i work with and hear their thoughts.

Do you have your home with an agent that is full time and marketing your home? If not I can recommend some great agents in your area.

Congrats on your transfer! If you need info about the area feel free to check out my website and request a relocation packet.

Good luck!

Wow, I have not heard of this, but I may just be uninformed. The only way I think you could do this is to find a builder that is an investor & holds properties in different cities. What is the price point and age of the home?

Is it possible that you could rent the home in Atlanta? Have you had your agent check the comps on your listing to make sure you are not way out of range on how much you're asking for the home?

I wish you much success with your home sale and I'll ask around and see if anyone knows of a builder willing to do that.
