Hi Marie,

The way I would suggest is to interview 2-3 agents to see the process they have in selling homes. You will get a very good perspective on the way they work. Once you feel you know you are going to work with make sure you set a time frame that you would commit to work together. Hope you find the right agent and in turn find the home you are looking for.

Hire a professional who knows the area and has proven success on helping others find homes in this area. Downey is a great city with it's own school district, mall, movie theater and movie studios. Also it has a great deal of history some of which includes : The Carpenters (music fame) , James Hetfield (Metallica lead singer) , the first Taco Bell, the third Spedee Mc Donalds, Rockwell space division, and Boeing to name a few. Find a Realtor who is going to find you the best deal and best home. I (personally) have an issue with the post that is buying you. As a professionally trained negotiator, (20+ years Army Intell, Interrogation, Counter Intelligence Agent, Law Enforcement, Etc..) I find it amusing when someone says, hire me, I am a professional in my field, and will NEGOTIATE the best deal for you, and oh.....I'm going to give you this and this and some of that....please please please call me...pretty please.

It reeks of desperation and that is not what you want on your side! (Here come all the thumbs downs for that one)


So here is how I tell folks to pick the best REALTOR.

Who cuts your hair? ...How did you find him/her?
Who is your Dentist? .......How did you find him/her?
Doctor? ...How did you find him/her?
Attorney? ...How did you find him/her?

See a pattern...?


Why should a REALTOR be any different. Ask your friends who have purchased properties. I am sure you will find a GREAT REALTOR. In fact, I know you will.

Hi Marie,

First you get yourself a Realtor that you trust and like. Then you sit down together and discuss what you are looking for in your next home. You also look realistically and conservatively at what you can comfortably afford.

Your Realtor does some legwork and locates some properties that fit your wants and needs. You view the homes, decide what you like and write the offer.
