On average for a 1000 to1500 sqft home, what are the electric bills monthly. Also, during winter, what does

Asked by Robert Latham, Warwick, RI Thu Jul 10, 2008

it cost to heat for that season. I ask because electric in Rhode Island just went up 21% and Natural Gas 25%. My electric averages 200.00 monthly and gas is 1800-2000 for the year.

Hi Robert, We live in Englewood Fl In a 1400 sq ft all electric home with a pool. Summer ( most expensive time) averages around 210 per mo. Winters average around 70 per mo. I hope this helps.

Hi Robert,

You have brought back the terrible memories of heating bills in Massachusetts. Since moving to Fl. in 2003 life is much more simple. Remember there are no oil bills!!!!! I own a 1900 sq ft home with 10' ceilings, no pool and built in 1999 with an agerave rating on my A/C and heat pump system. In the heat of summer 90+ degrees everyday my electric bill will run me $250.00 in the winter with the exception of Christmas and the lights my bill is rouhgly $135.00. Now remember that is EVERYTHING no other fuel!!!! Not bad at all

Hello Robert,

There are many variables to this question.
What is the age of the house, who is the utility company, does it have a pool, ceiling fans, are the central heat and air units well maintained, etc.
In Florida most of the heating and cooling is central heat and air done by electircity. AC unit outside the house and the heating in the attic or 2nd floor.
You can expect July, August and January to be your most expensive months.

depends on a lot of stuff. are you wondering if YOUR costs are "normal"? Your utility company can tell you what the average is based on the specs of your home.

But, in general, all utility costs are going up. Dominion Power (Virginia) just increased rates 18%, haven't seen that bill yet!
