Does anyone have any opinions about living in Trainer, Marcus Hook, Boothwyn in Delaware County PA. There

Asked by Lesliewest, 19027 Fri Jan 11, 2008

seems to be new construction in those areas at reasonable rates. Are these areas worth looking into?

I've lived in Linwood for over 30 yrs. and the area has went downhill greatly during that time. It used to be a working class homeowner neighborhood but has become an area of welfare/Sect. 8/unemployed scumbag families. That allow their kids to run unsupervised to all hours of the night. Kind of a Chester Jr. so I would not recommend anyone with kids to even consider this area due to the bad influence. No major crime but the vandalism is getting out of hand. It seems you're that your expected to watch the scumbags kids because they are too busy being unemployed.

If you have no kids, your fine....the school district is lacking considering the school taxes....
Trainer you have to pay Delcora for sewer/alot section 8/property taxes are high
Marcus Hook also has to pay Delcora/section 8 and the cops dont have a grip.
Linwood /section 8 near Marshall terrace, not bad over by Huddle Ave.
Boothwyn (except Willowbrook and Cherry Tree road) are fine

Linwood and Boothwyn - Lower and Upper Chi respectively - have diligent police forces. Despite Linwood's relative proximity to Chester, the cops in the town keep a pretty tight lid on any shenanigans. Naturally there will be some incidents that show up on the front page of the Delco Times. But for some reason the newspapers won't report the crime and burglaries occurring in the Garnet Valley/Concord/Thornton area. I had access to the State Police report on incidents in those high dollar areas, the residents would be surprised - and alarmed - if they only knew.

YES! Especially if you commute to work. Boothwyn/Upper Chichester is so close to 95 and 476. I have a listing in Upper Chichester in a new development Deer Crossing. The homes are well built and only 5 year old. Deer Crossing is a small quite development with a community playground. Check it out: 10 Fawn Lane Upper Chichester.

The fact of the matter is "location, location, location". While you may choose not to live in such an area, others may given the right price. This is the benefit of the free markets.

I dont know where you are from, but there is a Sunoco Marcus Hook Refinery. So anywhere in trainer or Marcus hook ,your home could be looking straight at the refinery. But worse than the refinery itself is the flare stack. You do not want to be downwind of a flarestack...it is a long pipe (like a big cigarette) with a flame shooting out the top. This is where all the chemicals are burnt off. In trainer they built new construction right next to and downwind of the flarestack. They are starting at 170K I dont think i would live in if they gave it to my for free.

Boothwyn is fine. Marcus Hook and Trainer have nice parts and some more run down areas. All are pretty safe. The reason that they are pretty low is that the school district is not one of the better ones in the area and because they are pretty close to Chester, which is pretty run down and has its fair share of crime. That being said, the areas are very convenient to both Philadelphia and Wilmington both by car and by train. Drive through the towns and see what you think.
