listings say taxes with star. What does this mean?

The actual taxes are higher; therefore request the figure without STAR exemptions.

Everyone is entitled to STAR if you live in the home and it is your primary residence.

Not everyone is entitled to enhanced STAR or Veteran's exemptions. That is why true taxes are always quoted, (not necessarily what the current owner pays) and the STAR is also shown. That is most likely what the new owner will pay.

It must be applied for by the new owner before March 1.

NYS sponsors a STAR Tax relief program. The taxes stated on the listing are minus the STAR deduction. The actual taxes are higher.
