Anne, Home Buyer in Tallahassee, FL

I am about to close on a house just outside of Tallahassee. When I spoke with my landlord a couple of?

Asked by Anne, Tallahassee, FL Wed Dec 19, 2007

months ago they told me that as long as I gave 30 days notice and paid the relisting fee, I could break my lease. Now a week from closing, I've been told that I am stuck with my lease for the full term, 4 more months. I can't afford double payments for that long. Is there a way I can break the lease without such a huge penalty?

Anne,
The answer lies in your lease agreement. You should have a copy of the lease you signed, if not, then the landlord has one with your signature they can provide. Whatever is in the lease determines what your requirements are. Be sure and read the entire thing because just one clause may not be enough to tell you if there is another way out.
Good luck and congratulations on your new home. Buying a home is very emotional and having rental/landlord problems doesn't help.
