Property Q&A in 67235>Question Details

Jenni, Real Estate Pro in Denver, CO

I would love to know more about homes in the 67235 zip code and, more specifically, about Goddard School Dist.

Asked by Jenni, Denver, CO Sun Sep 28, 2008

Moving from out of state and interested in the Sedgewick County area and Goddard School District. Would also be very interested in other neighborhoods with good school districts. I know nothing about the area.
Thank you!

Hi Jenni:
Congratulations on your decision to make the move to our area! I think you'l love it! The Goddard School District is highly respected and it's community is very family friendly! Other school systems that get a lot of atention are Maize and Valley Center which are West and North-west respectfully. On the east part of our area the Andover school district is highly desireable. You can look up more school infomation on my website at http://www.WichitaWatefront.com.

Charlotte, you are right, it is unfair to make blanket statements. I was specifically referring to Wichita public, non-magnate schools. Of course test scores don't tell the whole story, and you can definitely find a gem of an elementary school, but you have to realize that people moving here from out of state have a difficult time determining the quality of schools, so fair or unfair test scores are one of the few indicators we have to use. In fact, I made a spreadsheet just for that purpose -- http://www.mediafire.com/file/yomoe2jn2nj/School%20Ratings.xls

My biggest concern from an outsider point of view was with the high schools. When you have a GOAL of 71% of the students passing the math test at what I understand to be one of the better (public, non-magnate) high schools, that worries me. Of course, I grew up in a small town, so maybe my expectations just aren't realistic.

In the end everyone's outlook and goals are different, and you just have to do what's best for yourself and your family. Good luck!

Wow, impressive spreadsheet. Thank you.
You do have to start somewhere and moving from out of state means that you also start from scratch, so I appreciate all of the feedback!

Thank you for your help. We have also looked into the College Hill area where Hyde Elementary is the district school. I really like the community feel of College Hill and Hyde, as well as Robinson Middle School seem to be well respected. Does anyone know any more about the area or schools?

Thanks again.

That is an advertisement based site and does not contain specific information about all schools including test scores. To say all Wichita schools are lacking is a blanket statement and simply not true. Personally, we had the choice of any public or private school we wanted to send our children to and specifically chose public schools in the Wichita school district. Please look at the direct sites of the schools you are considering and their specific test scores. Best wishes in your search!

My wife and I used http://www.greatschools.net quite a bit. It has school ratings as well as their test scores. This is where we learned the Wichita School District is quite lacking.

We started looking on our own, but you really do need a realtor to help you. For example, it's easy to do an internet search for homes in Maize/Goddard/Andover, but it's easy to miss all the homes with a Wichita address but still in those desired school districts (and there are a lot). We ended up with a home with a Wichita address but in the Andover school district. As a bonus, the taxes are much lower then if we had an Andover address.

Jenni,

Moving can be a huge task....especially when youngsters are involved. I would be happy to send you a relocation package, provide an area tour when you are in town and answer any questions beforehand that you might have. I work with a lot of families, and having an elementary and jr high school student myself, may be able to provide helpful information. Please feel free to email or call me if I can be of assistance.
