I'm not in North Pole, but I do live in Alaska and have lived in Fairbanks. If you haven't lived in Alaska before it would be my advice to rent for 6 months to a year to decide where you want to live. You can find everything from city living, albeit at -60 degrees, to almost remote living where the wolves will eat your dog for lunch quite literally.

Have you lived in the area before?

Hello Chris:

You should ask http://www.trulia.com/voices/profile/Just_Looking-Wasilla-24938/

He is the only Realtor I know of who is from Alaska. I am sure you can go to his profile and click on the "Contact' link. .

Chris.....

I must say I am curious as to why you addressed this question to me. The North Pole/Fairbanks is definitely out of my service area. I would suggest you connect with a local Realtor to provide you with the necessary information on the area. I see you are from Seattle...how soon are you planning to relocate?

It never hurts to rent and get to know a community but in the North Pole/Fairbanks area rent can be as high as a mortgage payment. If you get a good Realtor to represent you you can find a good solid property at a good price that you could sell down the line if you don't like the area. I lived in the North Pole area for 30 years and loved it. I love the community and all there is to do up there. With interest rates at an all time low and slowly climbing it is an excellent time for buying and investing. The Fairbanks area is one of the best markets in the nation with the two military bases and good rentals can be hard to find as well.
