I think the one way to start is to register online with different banks and asset management companies to start doing BPO's. I am no expert, as listing REO's is not the business I personally want to be in. ;-) Good luck to you.

Realtor.com has all the homes listed just look for the words bank owned.
As a realtor we know who the agents are the hold the majority of the listings and we just simply search all their listings and try to find matches based on areas that our clients target.

Some major lenders list their own on their own Web sites. Plus, many/most are listed in your MLS. Find an agent who specializes in REOs--it helps to have an agent experienced at that. So, it's not difficult to find them. What's difficult, sometimes, is getting the lender to agree to your offer. And just because it's an REO does not necessarily mean it's a good deal.

I have an REO in escrow and the listing agent uses a system called REOTrans (found at http://www.reotrans.com). The system allows you to create a profile and then pay a nominal monthly fee to be listed by zip code in front of the lenders who have property to list. Maybe it will work for you...

REO properties are listed on our local MLS however you have to search for them. The best way I have found to go about this with my clients is search by the zip codes and what type of home they are looking floor ie... 3-2 floor plan with 2 car attached garage central heat & air etc... If you would like more info please feel free to contact me thank you.....
