housing market. Is now a good time to invest in Vallejo (buy low)? What areas are the safest, strongest markets? How long will it take for the market to recover?

I am a Realtor and an investor and I am asking myself the same questions. Personally, I am looking at buying investment homes in Antioch. Why? There is a lot of inventory on the market, prices are low (as are interest rates) and there is still growth...including new hospitals. I'm buying for the long term.....I personally think there is potential Check it out.

Real Estate is tremendously complicated.
Let me give you just one set of facts to help you get off the fence:
Let's hypothesize that you wait one year to buy, and in that year, the house you want DROPs another 10%!
That's a lot, right? But in that year, your interest rate goes from 4 3/4% to 6 1/4%, just 1 1/2%
Your monthly payment on a $450,000 house would go UP $144 per month!

So, by waiting, you are betting the cost of the house will go down and that interest rates will not go up!

Good luck.

Such a sad thread. Note the dates, Folks. Cindi was so optimistic in Dec 2007 and she got 3 thumbs up. I wonder if she is even still in the business.

Debra's working with prices half what they were, but so far, she hasn't been vindicated.

The Vallejo housing market is still moving well and as a Realtor who lives here I still feel it is a great investment. We have the Ferry here to San Francisco for commuters, easy access to Sacramento and the perfect weather. Cities always get bad press before good so I suggest you come see for yourself.

I'm glad you posted this reply here Debra, as I had just purchased a beautiful Victorian home in the historical disctrict of Vallejo and before I made that decision I actually spent several months in this city to see what it's like to live here and you're right about it, Vallejo has a great access to SF by ferry , the weather is beautiful , the people are very nice and international also they had just finished renovating the parking and it has a great place to walk and run and breathe fresh air at the marina. Vallejo is beautiful, lots of history and there are a lot of beautiful well preserved victorian homes as well as newer homes and old overgrown trees that covers the street- I think it just needs to be cleaned up a bit. I really could not understand why people has so much negative things to say about this place and never been there- I'm an investor and it's my first home in Vallejo and I plan to buy more I think that this city has great potential to boom
