I have done a few transacdtions in Whiting, both in the adult communties and single family homes that are not part of adult communities. Traveling up Route 70 toward the Parkway will provide more options for dining and recreation. There are a few parks and lakes that are great, and several new things are planned for the area. You won't find the density that you will find in Brick, but you can reach areas nearby to Whiting that have more shopping, dining, etc.
Where do you live now? What do you like and dislike about it? That might proviede some guidance in comparisons. Will you be commuting to work? Where?
Are you looking at adult communities or not? If so, be aware that Crestwood Villages 1-4 are co-ops and Villages 5-7 are deeded property. Of course, there are other communties, and wonderful SF homes, also.
You didn't mention where you live now...I'm from North Jersey and have re-located to Whiting.
Dining there and here are 2 different worlds. Proximity is also a big difference.
I'm here for the lower taxes and less traffic.
You didn't mention if you are looking for adult communities (age 55 and over) or single family housing.
Depending on your needs, if you will be commuting, etc. would be the determination if Whiting is the place for you.
We do have 2 diner like atmospheres in Whiting and finally some good pizza.
Other than that I find myself driving towards Brick or Toms River for dining.
Feel free to email me if you have any questions about the area...I've lived here for 7 years.
Shopping is very limited in Whiting, but we are awaiting a new Foodtown. We have a new Stop and Shop.
If you are shopping for clothes, our 2 closest malls are Ocean County Mall in Toms River and Freehold Mall in Freehold.
Where else are you looking?
I have lived within an hour of Whiting almost all my life, ( I'm 62). Airports are 60 -90 minutes., Newark, Philly, Atlantic City, even JFK is under 2 hours. Are you thinking adult (over 55) community or traditional family housing?
Whiting is part of Manchester so when searching on line for things in that area you may not find it under one but the other - just an FYI. The closest movie theatre is probably Brick or Toms River. They have a couple of good restuarants near by but it's a little more rural than some of the other neighboring towns but they are adding more and more all the time. It is one of the few places left that has not been "built out" yet.
check these two sites for school info: http://www.state.nj.us/education/directory/
This is the township site: http://manchestertownshipnj.org/ This gives some good info on what ammeneties are in and around the area of Whiting.
If you are moving to Whiting to retire a great site is http://www.retireoceancounty.com/.
Let me know if I can be of any further assistance.
