Any thoughts on Real Estate Continuing Education?

Asked by Brad Larson, Fort Myers, FL Thu Feb 12, 2009

1. Who would prefer to take engaging, entertaining, and educational Real Estate Continuing Education classes over doing it online or reading a book?

2. What topics would be of interest to you, or are there any areas of the real estate profession that you strongly feel licensees need further education on?

Thanks for the feedback. One of the main issues here in Florida is that newly licensed Sales Associates have up to 2 years to completed their 45-hour Post-License Education where they actually learn about the Sales and Marketing side of being a real estate professional.

The fact of the matter is that most licensees wait until their 2 years is almost up to take that education. What is sad about this is that the ones who are still working don't need it by that point and the ones who really need it aren't working anymore.

At my real estate school in Fort Myers, we push our newly licensed students to complete their Post-Education as soon as possible because it is in this class where they move beyond the state and federal laws and learn about actually being in business.

As for the Foreclosures and Short Sales, we have a 4 hour continuing education class called "Short Sales, Foreclosures and REO." We realize that further education on these topics is needed, especially in our hard hit area.

Are there any other topics that would be of interest for CE credit?

Education is so important in todays' market, you need to understand the constant changes to better serve your customers. There is nothing like being in a classroom environment to obtain good information. You have the ability to ask questions and participate in discussions.
However, online technology is advancing, and I also think this is a good tool for further education. I have taken several online courses to obtain additional designations to obtain additional knowledge and skills.

Dealing with Forclosures in today's market is a much needed topic and short sales are necessary for further education

We are hearing a lot about the dismal real estate business an how important it is to remain positive. I'm interested in "in the trenches" real estate survival 101. Agents are droppping like flies and no one seems to be concerned.

Inexperienced agents need real support that transulates into efficiency and results. Some agents are making it but many would benefit from real insight that makes a difference.

I enjoy classes, but I also found it interesting to get the book and debate the questions and answers with my colleagues.
