You ask , "what was this home used for before it became a bed and breakfast in 1987?Do you know who the owners have been?"
The best answer I can offer is you might speak to a (mature) Realtor in the area, who may recall some of the earlier uses of the building. The town tax card should be a resource, as it will likely have former owners and perhaps former uses as well. A local closing company will be an able resource as well, they could do a chain of title for you--no doubt for a fee--(sometimes called a title search) which will give you the owners in sequence over the years. And armed with the names of the owners, you can find and read the deeds, and see if the property was subdivided and when.
Sometimes the local historical society will be a huge asset in this kind of research, as they often may have early photographs of the building (especially before the huge rear addition was added). Often the early photos give names of owners and dates, so you can match that up with the early deeds in Carrol County.
Hope this helps.
