Hi Sam,

I live in Anthem and over the years I have heard many a tall tale told about Anthem, but that one takes the cake. I can assure you that it was not builton Indian burial grounds. Anthem is a fantastic community. Unfortunately it seems to bring about a lot of resentment from fellow Valley residents. I don't know if it's jealousy or what. But for those of us who live in Anthem we love it. If you want to learn more about the community visit my blog at

No it is not true. If it were, the native americans associated with previous inhabitants of what is now Maricopa County would not have allowed any development over sacred burial grounds. Development has been done over known and unknown early native settlements or camps in the area, but they are not considered as sacred as burial grounds. Most early native americans did not inter their deceased in the same manner as early settlers or todays society.

I don't think that is true.

What I heard was that they had to purchase water rights from the Indians because the ground water had a high level of arsenic in it (and was thus unusable). New developments are required to have proof of a 50 year water supply.

Interesting, never heard that before. I did a Yahoo search and didn't find much but this website: which has some info on "haunted" Arizona but nothing about an indian burial ground.
