Sounds like I'm the only Texan answering on this post, but as what I mean a "California Closet" to be is an armoire used as storage for clothes and nothing more. Knowing that price/ sq. ft. is Soo unreasonably high, it has been joked that builders just stopped putting closets in all together to make room for more bedroom sq. ft. Atleast that's my interpretation!
If you have to go through one bedroom to get to another that usually won't be counted by an appraiser regardless if it has it's own window, closet, etc. We have the same issues with alleged "unitsâ€. Most definitions of a "unit" would have a bathroom plus cooking facilities. I've seen many an "illegal" unit where the cooking facility is the old "Pullman" kitchen set up. They can be unplugged and moved pretty quickly when an appraiser or city/county inspector comes a calling!! The "Pullman" kitchens are those units with self contained cooking unit/refrigerator and sink all in one.
