Is a radon mitigation system going to decrease the resale value of my home?

When meeting with buyers for the first time, we explain what to expect from the home buying process. One of the things we go over is inspections, radon being one of them. In our area there is a good chance that there will be elevated radon levels upon testing.

When we look at houses, radon systems are looked at as a positive feature not only because it is less likely radon will be present (we will still suggest a test be done) but also because it indicates the seller understands the issue and has been proactive in dealing with it. Having a system present has never been a factor to decrease the of value a home in this area.

A radon mitigation system can be a great selling point to a home. Obviously, every home can be victim of radon, but knowing there is a pro-active measure in place is a great feature. I agree with you Donna!

Most likely yes. That is a situation that although remedied, is not cured and causes people concern. Anytime you have a health concern, unless it is totally eliminated, your home will be at a disadvantage compared to a similar home without the concern.

A radon mitigation system will pump harmful radon gas from the interior of your home. Radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer and it is more prevalent in some areas then others. After the system is installed have the home retested for radon and have the results ready for the buyer. It should be a positive for re-sale. I'm suggesting to my buyers to have their home tested for radon as part of the homes inspection.
