Hi Steve: Hurricane impact windows are a definite plus but the highest rating comes if you have hurricane impact doors too, next best is the accordian shutters that you just have to close when a storm is coming and then a full set of custom steel or aluminium shutters. Any of these will offer you a significant discount on your property. A monitored alarm system is another plus. A screened pool enclosure does tend to add to the premium so if you have a home without one, your policy will be less. I also know that a lot of insurers aren't interested in 2 story homes but I don't think this is significant.

A good idea for any homeowner is to have a windstorm inspection. These are state certified and if they can't save you $$$s on your insurance, then you get your money back. I've used DMI (Don Meyler Inspections) at http://www.windstorminspections.com and have had no problems with them at all. There are several similar companies available in the area.

Best of luck to you and if you need help in finding that perfect home, please let me know.
