Update: the number of homes for sale has decreased. The average sales price is around $200,000. Prairie Village and Leawood on the KS side remain hot.
Brookside remains hot on the MO side.
Olathe, Blue Springs, and some areas north of the river are doing well.
Downtown condo sales have dropped off so many condos are having special deals to attract buyers.
westport is hot.
There are some exceptional deals in Hyde Park and Roanoke.
What area did you like best when you lived here before?

On the KS side, anything in SM East school district is desirable.
On the MO side, Brookside area, Plaza, Midtown is desirable.
downtown condos are also popular.
Blue Springs (MO) and Leawood (KS) property values have also done quite well in this market.
I'd be happy to share more specific information with you, if you'd like.

Compared to the coasts, all of KC is "hot"! But it really depends on what you are looking for. If it's just a great deal you can find it anywhere.

I’m not sure of your interest are or families needs are. Could you give us some help?

Kansas City is a multifaceted place.

I truly would be doing you a disservice by giving advice with out knowing more.

You have to consider Overland Park, Leawood in Kansas if you are moving back to KC...these are absolutely the best places to live according to consumer reports and therefore must be the best places to work. Good Luck!

I would recommend the Brookside or Waldo area of Kansas City, MO. This area tends to retain its value well and homes still sell fast in this area.

I live in the KCMO Northland area, and our sales are doing well, especially in the areas with the better school districts. You can still get a great deal on a short sale or foreclosure, but there are great deals everywhere! I would be happy to send you some listings at no obligation! Let me know if I can help in any way!
I also moved away, and moved back about 10 years ago. It really IS great to be back in the heartland!

Dawn, I'm not sure there is a "hot" market right now. But JoCo always does well and is standing up quite nicely right now. The airport corridor in the Northland is doing well. WyCo has dipped quite a bit and KCMO is all over the always. Hope that helps. Feel free to call me and we can discuss. I came home after being away 18 years. And it's good to be back.
