You really want to sit down with the agent and make sure that you connect with him/her and he/she understands what you want and are willing to work with you.
Ask yourself this simple question: What is the most important thing to you? Many people want to save some money when they buy. Does the agent who sells many homes help you save money, or are you just one number in their statistics? Can the agent who sold only one home this year help you save money? It's probably a little bit more complicated. You will probably not go wrong, if you interview more than one agent.
Ask your friends if they can refer any agents, ask them questions about their experience working with them.

Yes...there are websites that rank agents and yes you can Google or Yahoo or search other search engines for key phrases to see which Realtors come up first, but that doen't mean they are great. Every page rank is based upon an algorithm and agents can target keywords or they can "post for points" by posting blogs which will rank them ahead of another agent. Because of this it is hard to say that there is a site that rates agents and can display the best agents. Take myself for instance, our team is number 8 out of an office of 300 plus agents...by that statistic we are not "the best", however we have only been in real estate for the past four years...many of the agents ahead of us have been networking and have built databases for the past 10 years. We feel that we are the greatest, however we don't really have a statistic to prove this. However, our office and other offices constantly ask us to teach classes on buing, selling/listing, our systems, etc....I believe that means something!
