Who, What and Why is Trulia?

Asked by Ruthless, 60558 Thu Sep 20, 2007

I've tried researching to "trust but verify" the real purpose of Trulia. I'm alarmed at how big they have grown with so little background or news about them when I've tried searching. The only solid answer I got to one of my ? was that they have "angel investors." Whose idea was it and why? I love my T-shirt "because I'm too old for My Space" but found no news that they are associated with My Space. I don't think I've seen that phrase here, so I wonder if they are concerned with trademark or hiding their relationship? When I look at my website stats, I don't see any referrals from Trulia.com but I've had a dramatic increase from MySpace.com since I joined Trulia. (And I am too old for them, my profile was 1 week a year ago and removed.)

One last thing, I started to investigate because I think it is strange how they accept listings. They don't use the all encompassing MLS or Realtor.com but they won't let FSBOs list either. What is the value of searching for a home on Trulia?

Bridget:
Your post helped. I Googled Pete Flint and found this:

Have things changed that much in a year and a half? It sure seems to me that Realt_r.com is a "Universal Multiple Listing." The spamming for Realt_r.com is one of the things that made me suspicious in the first place. And many big company websites such as WSJ seem to just piggy back onto that same information. I'm confused how this all works.

P.S. I hate typos. Some make you sound so ignorant as opposed to making a mistake. I wish we could preview answers or make corrections instead of deleting and reposting.

Ruth,
Wow! Did you get your PI license, yet? I don't have any answers for you--it is my hope that Pete Flint (Trulia founder) will log on and answer this question himself--he does sometimes... How about it Pete?
