Thanks for your questions regarding scenic Walton, Kentucky. Walton offers that great small town atmosphere with a population of only 2450 in the 2000 census. I'm sure that census has grown since 2000, but not overgrown. There are many beautiful horse farms, wonderful scenery, and many historic homes offered in the area. While a semi-rural area, Walton has just begun to grow adding a new Kohl's Department Store just recently as well as a Kroger's Food Chain. Walton has had the best rated schools in Kentucky for quite some time, is part of the Independent School Dstrict consisting of approximately 500 students in elementary and 500 in high school. There is one parochial school as well. Walton has a community park with soccer and softball fields, basketball and vollyball courts and much more. One of the fun small town activities that I enjoy is the parade during "Old Fashion Day." All the old stores decorate their windows and offer antique quilts, heirlooms and historical pictures to celebrate the birthday of Boone County. Some residents dress in period costumes and there's lots of games and food to go around.
Richwood and Florence are the larger nearby towns about 10 minutes South of Walton which offer just about everything imaginable, including thoroughbred racing at Turfway Park. To the North of Walton is the town of Dry Ridge offering another shopping mall, some great places to eat and beautiful scenery. There are gambling riverboats within driving distance about 30-45 minutes away, the Belterra Casino Resort and Spa, the Grand Victoria, and the Argosy Casino. The City of Cincinnati is also within a 20 miles radius.
The best place to obtain a City map of Walton is through Mapquest. You can arrive there by placing "Walton Kentucky City Map" in your search area and then clicking on street map.
Mary, I hope my information was helpful to you. As you may have figured, I live in nearby City of Union and visit the Walton area quite often. It is one of my favorite places to visit as is the adjoining town of Verona. Should you need more information about this wonderful little town, please feel free to contact me.
To briefly answer your question, Walton is just a few miles south of Florence KY. There is a new Kohl's store that just opened up and I'm sure many others to come in the future. Walton is only minutes from the Florence Mall (less than 10 miles) which is a newly renovated 2-story mall. Also in the Florence vicinity are loads of other retail stores and restaurants including Sam's club, Wal-Mart SuperCenter, Home Depot, and Target to name just a few. Restaurants include Cracker Barrel, Olive Garden, O'Charley's, Rafferty's, Applebees and dozens more. If I can be of further assistance, please contact me.
