Hi brwnidgr12,
I moved to Chicago from Bloomington about 5 years ago. I still have my townhouse on the west side of Bloomington. A doctor has been renting it since I left I think she will be moving in July. My townhouse is a large 3 bedroom, 2 bath with a large deck and huge gargage. The complex also has a super clean and nice swimming pool. I can give you a great deal on the place. Let me know.
Thanks
Bill

Hi Brwnidgirl12,
What price range are you looking at? I have a few fantastic realtors who know Bloomington inside and out. Will you be working in Bloomington? There are some great communities within an easy commute to Bloomington as well. Let me know if there are any questions I can answer or hook you up with one of my Realtors.
Have you need Pre-Approved yet? Remember to have a Pre-Approval ready to go when you want to start looking at homes, most Realtors that I know won't take someone out to look at homes until they have a Pre-Approval for mortgage financing. If you have any questions on this hit me up at Sean@Spectrafinancial.com
Welcome to the state!

I have three children, one in elementary, two in Junior high with the older one attending the Senior high next year. I have lived in Bloominton for over 30 years and have seen the neighborhoods change. I know which neighborhoods I am constantly carting my kids to as far as the West side of Bloomington is concerned. Make sure that whatever agent you decide to use does some research by asking the sellers or neighbors about the neighborhood's composition. I live in a neighborhood, that is in transition from the last group that graduated and now those families have moved on and a new batch of preschoolers are growing up here. if you would like to hear more feel free to email me at seanloughrey@comcast.net or call my cell 612-251-8513

I am also a Chicago-to-Minnesota transplant. :0) There are a lot of us up here! ha ha Bloomington is a nice area, I wouldn't have worries about a lot of neighborhoods in MN. It's not like Chicago where there are pockets of places that you really need to worry about. The ones up here that you do need to worry about---you'll know, b/c the houses are all boarded up, and are selling for $10,000. Your best bet is to go to the schools on a school day, and check out the atmosphere. (I'm a teacher, and a mother, so schools are important to me). Good lcuk!

Welcome to Minnesota! I used to live in Chicago too, far south side, Roseland. Bring plenty of Canfield's and Gonnella Bread with you, because you can't get them up here.

While licensed real estate agents cannot directly answer your question (by law), you CAN

Hi brwnidgrl12,

I came to Bloomington via a job transfer from the Chicagoland area so I can show you around Bloomington with an understanding of the area you are coming from. Chicagoland is awesome but I know you will love Bloomington as well! I keep close tabs on properties in my neighborhood so visit my website and click on the tab labeled "Bush Lake News and Views". Here you can take a video tour of Bush Lake which is located in West Bloomington and also view some of the houses that are currently for sale.

Please let me know if you have any additional questions.

brwnidgrl12,

A tough question to answer since familial status is a protected class in MN - meaning that we can't discriminate against it (in this case you would be discriminating against those without children).

That said, as a father of two young children, I completely understand your concern. I might recommend that if you are here during the summer that you take a drive around some neighborhoods - as with Illinois - Minnesota children generally fill up the streets on a summer evening. You might also concentrate on a neighborhood that were entry level, or first level move-up in the past 5-10 years. An agent could definitely help you find a 5-10 year old house in a moderate price range.

Please let me know if you would like some further assistance in the matter.

Licensed real estate agents cannot describe neighborhoods as such because it violates Fair Housing laws when we describe a neighborhood by age, race, sex, familial status or national origin. What I CAN say is that I grew up in Bloomington (west side, near France and Old Shakopee Rd) and went to the public schools and I had a great experience and the schools' reputations are still strong today. I recommend many of my clients look at Bloomington for a good balance in pricing, location, amenities and schools. In fact I have a buyer I'm working with right now that was originally looking at Edina up to $500k but is now looking at Bloomington because the values are so much better.
