Is it possible to live in this city without a car?

My experience with getting around in Mill Valley would be pretty difficult without a car. Public transportation getting out of Mill Valley is very workable. Downtown is best on foot or bicycle. It's a great downtown area.

Mill Valley has all that, close proximity to the city, via car, bus, and ferry. Relative easy commute to the city all in all. Around town, it's wonderful just to walk, bike, take your time to explore.

However, with some of the hills (great view and surrounding woods), there are quite a few one way, narrow and steep streets that you will have to navigate by car, most likely, and parking could be precarious; so when you purchase house in Mill Valley, you might want to keep that in mind.

Public transportation is sometimes great, sometimes not depending on where you live, where you have to go an when. You have the choice of 2 - 3 ferry terminals, many bus routes as well as good old pedaling. You can ride a bicycle around Mill Valley very easily unless you live "on the mountain" in which case you will get into the best shape of your life very quickly.

Access to San Francisco is available by public buses, ferry service from Larkspur, Tiburon or Sausalito, or is an easy drive across the Golden Gate Bridge.

Bus transportation. The hub is downtown by the old Depot. Many people do not own cars.

It's not that easy to get around Mill Valley without a car. Mill Valley has a lot of hills, and really only a few major thoroughfares. There are public buses, but no trains or subways.

The public transportation includes bussess and ferry service. The ferry services is great depending on where you live and work. If you like to ride a bike almost everything is within biking distance-- prepare for hills.
