California is absolutely gorgeous and has many homes that can fit the bill. If you are considering California what areas do you want to be in. Can you provide more information and have you had a chance to talk with a lender about pricing?

More details would certainly help. Have you spoken with a lender yet to see how much home you can afford? That might be a good place to start. It's a great time to buy real estate.

You just described Oregon. We have an abundance of homes that fit this profile beautifully. Just choose your area and something will fit the bill for you at a reasonable price. And the best part is that if you need to be situated near a major city, you can live 20 minutes drive away and feel like you're in another world.

West Coast - Central CA approaching the Sequoias; Northern CA - Redding north. Oregon, lots of choices. Colorado - north of Ft Collins into the footlhills.

Midwest - Michigan, Wisconsin. but cooler temps and stronger winters

East Coast - Poconos area of PA, Sussex or Warren Cty of NJ, Catskills of NY
VA - Amherst, Roanoke, Danville
NC - Ashville, Hendersonville

Although the list could go on, these are some notable favorites.

If you comment about your preferred geography, I think you will get additional answers tailored to your desired preferences.

Good Luck

Lindsay,
Price will certainly dictate your location and schools. What other factors does your family need and where would you like to live. Climbate, hot cold?? Let me know then we can pinpoint some great areas for you?

Hi Lindsay:
You've gotten some great advice (sans the Appalachians) however, it would be nice to know where you are geographically, and what state you see yourself living in.

The Appalachian Mountain's sounds like the perfect fit for you.

Michigan has some awesome homes in wooded areas. Can you narrow it down any further? What sort of price or state?
