paid off house and never recieved a paid in full deed

First of all, congratulations Larry! It is quite an accomplishment to pay the entire mortgage off, many people never reach that point, so kudos to you. As for the documentation reflecting that you have completely paid off your mortgage, you should receive it 30-90 days after your final mortgage payment. This documentation could just be proof you paid it off or it could be a Deed of Reconveyance. It depends on where you are located, but most of the time you have to do the footwork and bring it to the county recorder's office to get ownership completely transferred to you. Ellen is right Larry, you will probably have to do a lot of the leg work! But congratulations! It will be worth it! Contact your lender, contact the courthouse to see if it has been filed. Good Luck!

1 vote Thank Flag Link Sun Aug 12, 2007 our state of California when you paid off your loan you lender is suppose to send you a Deed of Reconveyance or in some cases they will record it for you. If it is sent directly to you, you will need to record it at the county recorder's office.

this is to larry johnson i know someone that went through the same thing you did house have been paid for about 8 years now the house and property is still in the original owners name by law since the deed is not in your name that is not your property the owners died property and house went to probate court and the children got the house and property you do not own nothing if the deed is not in your name so please get you a lawyer and hurry and get this corrected because in the end you will have to move out this happened to someone i know very well like a family member so please handle your situation as soon as possible this is no joke

The first thing I would do is contact your lender. Was the deed sent? Was it recorded? They should be able to direct you.
