Cherry Creek High School is a fabulous and nationally ranked school. If you can get your child in this school they are likely to have an outstanding education and school experience. If the child is not in high school, ther is Campus Middle School and a great elementary, also.

My website has much of the infomation that you are seeking about schools, neighborhoods, and lif in Denver.

I will answer this question perhaps more frankly than the professionals who have already responded - I am a product of DPS, and I don't have to be diplomatic! DPS is a troubled district. However, there are some very good schools. Some may not look great according to test scores, but are popular for other reasons, such as having an innovative dual language immersion program. In choosing schools for my kids, I have come to see that stats aren't that helpful for the qualities I seek in a school. Try to get online somewhere and get parents' opinions.

Just be aware that DPS has issues and is in transition right now with the Superintendent. You will need to get lots of parent feedback to be sure you are getting into the quality schools. Good luck!

Scott,

As with any school district there are higher ranked (as far as testing standards) schools than others. I would suggest going to the http://www.cde.state.co.us site to pull report cards from various schools that are in the Denver Public School (DPS) system. You can also go to http://www.dpsk12.org to learn more about Denver Public Schools. By the way there is only one school district in the City and County of Denver. There are many more outside of Denver that feed from other counties/cities.

I always suggest starting your home buying search with schools. It is a great starting point for anyone who is starting to look! If you would like a copy of my Relocation Guide to metro Denver go to: http://www.leslieheldenbrand.com/about--denver-co.asp to request one.

The two links listed are both very good resources. Like all school districts, there are some great schools in Denver (I may be prejudiced, I'm a Denver native and went through DPS for my education) and some not so great schools. I suggest you do your research carefully to pick the best schools. Good luck.

The link above will connect you to the Colorado Department of Education. If you click on the "Parents and Students" tab, you can access state reports on school districts and testing on individual schools. Many of my clients utilize the academic performance ratings to determine their choices in locating a home.

Scott,

I use the Great Schools website when I'm looking for information about a school:
http://www.greatschools.net/

For me, having moved here from Chicago two years ago, the Denver public schools are wonderful.

If you are thinking about relocating give me a call. I have a wonderful MLS search tool that many of my out of state buyers find very useful.

Good luck,
