Just be aware that DPS has issues and is in transition right now with the Superintendent. You will need to get lots of parent feedback to be sure you are getting into the quality schools. Good luck!
As with any school district there are higher ranked (as far as testing standards) schools than others. I would suggest going to the http://www.cde.state.co.us site to pull report cards from various schools that are in the Denver Public School (DPS) system. You can also go to http://www.dpsk12.org to learn more about Denver Public Schools. By the way there is only one school district in the City and County of Denver. There are many more outside of Denver that feed from other counties/cities.
I always suggest starting your home buying search with schools. It is a great starting point for anyone who is starting to look! If you would like a copy of my Relocation Guide to metro Denver go to: http://www.leslieheldenbrand.com/about--denver-co.asp to request one.

The link above will connect you to the Colorado Department of Education. If you click on the "Parents and Students" tab, you can access state reports on school districts and testing on individual schools. Many of my clients utilize the academic performance ratings to determine their choices in locating a home.
I use the Great Schools website when I'm looking for information about a school:
For me, having moved here from Chicago two years ago, the Denver public schools are wonderful.
If you are thinking about relocating give me a call. I have a wonderful MLS search tool that many of my out of state buyers find very useful.
