How do I find out what my property is now worth?

Asked by Aaron Willems, 94603 Fri Jul 25, 2008

Town house sales in my area have dropped by 50%. I need to get my property re-assessed so I can get my property taxes lowered. I downloaded the forms from the Oakland Assessor's office, but does Trulia offer services to have my property Re-assessed.

Dear Aaron,

It should be pretty easy to comp your townhome and find out what is worth by researching the recent sales in your community or neighborhood. You are somewhat correct to say that condo and townhomes have had more decline in the recent months.

If you need assistance completing the form and/or get recent comps to build your case with the assessor's office, you may contact me. I will be happy to provide with some information at no charge or obligation.

Good luck,

You can probably locate recent comparable sales on Trulia and in your area to use as evidence that prices have dropped considerably. Furthermore, this will not likely be a surprise to the county assessor's anyway. Do make an appointment and go with your written "evidence" though. Perhaps a local Realtor would be willing to do any actual comparable analysis for you. You could your favorite and ask. We will do this as a good will gesture for people. We would hope then when you need real estate services that you would remember to call us. At any rate, we would endeavor to keep in touch with regular real estate updates. Good luck.
