We are looking for a family friendly neighborhood in Chesapeake.

We like Las Gaviotas and Cheshire Forest. Any suggestions for others? Elementary school is really important. Our price range is between $300 and $350. Thanks!

Michelle H.

Currently I live in Oak Grove Meadows and it is definitley a family friendly area, it is real close to the hospital, shopping, immediate access to highway and resturants on battlefield and good schools. Currently I have decieded to sell my home and would be interested in showing it to you. It is 809 Shadowberry Crest, chesapeake 23320. It is a beautiful 4 bds, 2.5 bath, double bay garage. I could send you photos since I have not listed it anywhere, I would be selling it by owner. If interested pls contact me @ 757-573-8383 (Tom). Would love to show it to you. Thanks and good luck in your search!!

Michelle - I am a military member and I have lived in Chesapeake for seven years. I recently MOVED out of Chesapeake, however. PLEASE take my advice: DO NOT BUY A HOME ANYWHERE NEAR THE DOMINION STEEL BRIDGE - particulary SOUTH of the River and Deep Creek South. Those suggesting Summer Park or Marsh Creek, for example, are leading you down the wrong path. Don't trust them. I'll bet a million dollars NONE of them live in that area. The traffic, during rush hours and Saturdays is unbearable, and when the construction begins on the new span, it'll become a total nightmare for those that live in the area - capped off by a 2-way TOLL every time you cross the bridge.

Take my correct assessment to heart and move anywhere but there!

I can't make any recommendations for "family friendly" neighborhoods, but I strongly recommend being close to the 168 Bypass or the eastern edge of Great Bridge and Hickory. 168 will be your lifeline - the farther away you live from it, the more miserable you will be. Trust me.

I personally live in Las Gaviotas, it is a great neighborhod but like others have stated there are many in your price range. You can get a lot of house for your money right now so be picky and don't forget to ask for closing costs and a home warranty. If you need help or want to search by area ckeck out my free searches at trydunlo.com

Hi Michelle,

Your best place to start is by selecting an agent you feel comfortable working with through the home buying process. That agent will be able to send you properties that meet your search criteria on a daily basis. This will keep you aware of new listyings as they come on the market or have price reductions.

My son lives in Summer Park and loves the family atmosphere of the neighborhood. He has a four and a two year old. You might check it out. If you have any other questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to call or email.

Hello Michelle,

The neighborhoods you have listed are great areas. There are many more. I specialize and live in Chesapeake. It looks like you are focusing in on Great Bridge/Hickory. There are many neighborhoods in that price range. I just saw a great one over the weekend in Upton Farms for $300,000 that you might be interested in. Feel free to email me more of what you are looking for and we will find you that perfect home. RobinSellsHomes@cox.net

The world's your oyster right now, as there are so many choices available to you. Some other neighborhoods that you might also like are March Creek, Stonegate, Sawyer's Mill, Etheridge Lakes, Mill Pond, and perhaps Cedar Crossing too. Here's a list of 24 homes priced from $275,000 to $350,000 from many of these communities.

One great resource that you may also find useful is the website http://www.greatschools.net

This site allows you to review schools stats, SOL grades, demographics, and other parent's reviews as well. Here's a direct link to for all Chesapeake schools:
